The Ervins and Lobbs Visit Lafayette

This past weekend, my parents, sister and her hubby visited the dirty south in good ol' Lafayette :) I had been looking forward to that weekend for a long time and I'm already sad it's over. Thankfully we have a vacation to look forward to next week or else I'd be a little depressed.

I think I need to start planning fun things every month so that I can look forward to them. In April, Jamie's family is coming to visit for his birthday. In May, we may make a Memphis visit. In June, I have no idea what's going on. In July, Camie gets married. In August, we might be going to South Carolina with my family. No plans for September. Maybe in October we'll be going to see Kirby play football at Dartmouth again. My birthday is in November. And Christmas in December. I've got most of 2012 planned out :) Wahoo!

Back to the visit from my family.

Friday night, we started off with a bang at Ruth's Chris. Praise Jesus for yummy steakhouses. I munched on rolls, asparagus, scalloped potatoes, scallops and risotto, and a "sinless" chocolate cake. All of it was beyond terrific!

Saturday morning, I made a yummy egg and sausage casserole as pictured below:

And I also made pancakes so my family could experience Syrup Saturday. We also had fresh pineapple and my homemade granola. It was quite delicious.

After our tasty breakfast, we headed to Avery Island to explore the Tobasco plant and museum or whatever it's called.

The highlight of the trip was the Tobasco Country Store:
This place had everything from coffee mugs to t-shirts to hoodies to aprons and cookbooks and so much more!
John even paid $.51 for a smushed penny with a Tobasco design on it:
Probably his best souvenir of the trip for him! I guarantee it.

The best part was the samples:
They had samples of all of their sauces that you could taste with pretzels. Yum. You could also try their chili which was delicious, Tobasco flavored Coke a Cola, raspberry chipotle chocolate ice cream and habanero ice cream. I wasn't brave enough to try the habanero ice cream but Jamie swears it was pretty horrid. We probably spent a good half hour in that store exploring. You woulda thought it was Disney World the way people were acting in there!

Wall of sauces:

Chillin' on the porch:
That afternoon, we grabbed a quick lunch/snack at Zeus for some Greek munchies. Then the boys napped while the girls shopped. None of us bought anything...lame.

We all ended up at our apartment and watched the Baylor basketball game. I don't even remember who they played or who won. I'm a huge sports gal if you couldn't tell! After that riveting game of ball, we went to Prejean's for some delicious Cajun cuisine! Love that place!

Sunday morning, we went to T-Coons for breakfast and I got a sweet potato pancake...oh my yum! I'm adding that onto my list of recipes that I must try! So good!

Then we headed to the University of Louisiana of Lafayette campus to see if we could spot some gators.

Seesters with our hubbies:
Jamie and I chose to look a tid bit homeless that day...

Note to self: That black romper does NOT look good with the green cardigan. And it does NOT look good in pictures. Or maybe that's just me. Shoot!

Me, mamacita, and seester:
Gators and turtles:
Don't worry, those sweet turtles were in no danger with that big alligator mouth just inches away!

More gators:
Gatorific!

There were also a few coy in this pond as well:
Those fish are gigantic!

At UL, when you graduate, you can pay for a brick to be engraved on the campus. I forget what the "walk" is called but we found my grandma's brick:
Bonnie Lorraine Cary--my sweet grandma--graduated in 1943. It was such a treat to find her brick out there. I loved my Grandma so much and I'm sure she'd be thrilled to know we live in Lafayette and that Jamie is now going to UL :)

Alright. I'm off to work. Hope you enjoyed our trip recap. Sadly, I think I took more pictures of tobasco and reptiles than I did of family. Whoops. Better luck next time!

Love you guys. Happy Thursday!
