Good morning, my lovelies! Did you know it's already Thursday? Wow! This week has just flown by and I love it!
(Side note...I'm watching GMA right now and Tyra Banks is on...she's straight up cray-cray. I mean really. She's a kook! Anyhoo. Moving on.)
Before I begin, let's go back to yesterday, shall we?
Leia Lu had to go to the vet on Friday and they put her on a couple of pills. Well, they've helped dramatically, but she's been acting pretty lethargic and sleepy and just exhausted. Poor Lulu:
Back to the blog topic....Smoothies!!
Smoothie 101: How to make a delicious and flawless smoothie!
I've always been a smoothie fan as long as I can remember. When I was in 2nd grade, we went on a family vacation to Hawaii and that's when my love of smoothies really sparked. After that vacation, my mom would make "special breakfasts" with strawberry banana smoothies. She's so good! But ever since then, I've just loved them, and I think they're such a great way to get so many nutrients and fruits and even vegetables in your body in one small meal!
If you want to get a TON of smoothie ideas, head on over to Julie's blog at pbfingers.com. She is a smoothie-making machine and is much more creative than I am :) She also uses all kinds of protein powder when I haven't gotten that into yet. So head her way sometime!
Back to me :)
First, I put in some pieces of a frozen banana:
It's okay if you don't know how to freeze a banana. I totally screwed it up the first time I tried. What you do is you peel a banana, chop it up into about 2 inch pieces and put it in a plastic bag to put in the freezer. So there's your manner.
Second, put in all the fruit you want:
Here, I put in about a cup and a half of mixed berries--strawberries, blueberries, raspberries and blackberries. I always keep a bag on frozen strawberries on hand because I like the strawberry taste the most. Then just throw in whatever you want. Pineapples and peaches always give it a great flavor too!
Third, throw in about a cup of yogurt:
I use all kinds of yogurt--plain, vanilla, peach, strawberry, etc. Just pick what you like and go with it. If you use plain yogurt, you might want to squirt in a little honey to naturally sweeten it up a little bit.
Fourth, pour in your liquids:
Here, I used milk, but I've also used orange juice and apple juice and I've even squeezed the juice out of an orange. I put in about a cup or more of liquid. That'll get your smoothie really moving in the blender. If you don't put in enough liquid, your blender will let you know. It won't spin. Even the incredible Vitamix will get upset with you! So, put in some sort of liquid.
If you want to put in protein powder or spinach or whatever else, just throw it in there whenever. I try to put in the spinach at the bottom to make sure it really gets crunched up. Get creative and see what you like.
Fifth, blend:
Sixth, enjoy:
This smoothie made about 3 ish cups of smoothie and filled up 2 Eskimo Joe's cups. And these were delicious this morning, by the way.
Jamie still won't try the spinach, but maybe one day. Don't think you can sneak it in either, because it'll turn your smoothie a really sick color. Kind of vomish. And if you throw in enough of it, it'll turn totally green. Like pea green. Eww.
But enjoy, you guys! If you have a blender, make something this week! Go to the grocery and buy these things:
