A Week of Songs: Somebody that I Used to Know

This week, I am going to do something I've never done before but thought that it'd be fun. I'm going to do a week of songs, and every day this week, I'm going to post a video of a song that I love. It may be a song that makes me happy; a new workout song that gets my heart pumping; a song that makes me cry; a song that moves me spiritually...whatever. I'm just going to post a new song every day and I hope you enjoy it.

DAY 1: "SOMEBODY THAT I USED TO KNOW" BY GOTYE

I've liked this song for a while now, but now I listen to it every day.

Like several times a day.

I may or may not have listened to it 7 or 8 times today.

True story.

If you haven't heard this song yet, first of all, where have you been?! Second of all, enjoy it here:

Way cool video, is it not? Loving me some Gotye. And did anyone see him perform on SNL? Amazing. The lady singer's name is Kimbra, and I secretly want to be her. I think she has an awesome voice, is beautiful, has a unique name, and I think she's a super cool chick. Love. This. Song.

This is a cover of this song that I may like even better than the original. I love how all five of them are playing the guitar and how beautiful their voices blend together. I think the girl in this video is also way cool and has a beautiful voice. I'm just so digging this song:

Totally makes you want to join a band and do a rockin' cool video like that, no? Just me? I loved it.

I so wish I were somewhat of a hipster like these people.

Moving on...

This version of "Somebody that I Used to Know" is from Glee and it made me fall in love with Blaine all over again. He's the cutest TV gay I know. I just adore him and think he's all kinds of handsome. Enjoy the Glee version here:

Can you tell that I am SO loving this song right now? I'll probably be over and done with it in a week, because that's how I roll. But for now, on April 23rd at 8:10 PM, I love this song. A lot. And I know you do too.

On another note, this evening I tried my hand at doing kettlebells. My manager and her family do kettlebell workouts three days a week at their house with a trainer for free. My manager, Cindy, has invited me to join them several times since she knows how much I enjoy exercising, but I've put it off and put it off and put it off for weeks because I've been intimidated to try something knew. Well, I grew a pair (pardon the classy phrase), and decided to go tonight.

I'm already sore.

For realz.

Crazy sore.

As in, I've discovered new muscles in my body that I didn't know were there. Ooo baby.

I did single arm thrusts (18 pounds) and double arm thrusts (27 pounds) where I just move the kettlebell from in-between my legs and thrusted it to chest-level using my hips. I am a hippy person, so you'd think this would come easily. This was actually a very difficult workout, and really tested me. I now understand the phrase "muscle confusion" because my muscles had no idea what I was wanting them to do!

It was tough. The first five minutes, I was really frustrated, because I just couldn't get it. It's a very unnatural movement. I was on the verse of quitting, and was mad because I'm not used to not being able to do something physically. It truly is unlike anything I've ever done, but I'm going to go back and get better. I can tell this exercise works, because I really am feeling it. With kettlebells, you really only need to do it for five to ten minutes, because it is an exercise that works EVERYTHING and it is EXTREME! I was probably only moving and lifting the kettlebell for ten-ish minutes, but I was dying and felt every second. Ouch.

I'll keep you updated.

Tomorrow: a new song. And it's a catchy, fun song.

Tomorrow: a new workout. I'm trying the Xtend Barre class! I've always wanted to try these classes, so I'll let you know how it goes.

Now: Must shower. I'm stinky.

Hope your Monday was beyond lovely and that you didn't have a "case of the Mondays".

Love you!
