Don't Grumble...The Judge is Watching

Everyday, I like to get on my phone and open up the YouVersion application to see what the passage of the day is. Today, the passage is James 5. I love the book of James. It has so much wisdom and guidance and scripture that is easy to read and apply to my life. If you haven't read the book of James, DO IT! Especially if you haven't read much of the Bible, all of James is truly spectacular. If you do not own a Bible, here is the full book of James. Check it out.

ANYHOO...the verse the jumped out at me was James 5:9 that says, "Don't grumble against each other, brothers, or you will be judged. The Judge is standing at the door!" I like looking at punctuation when I read because it tells you how the sentence should be read. The sentence, "The Judge is standing at the door!" ends with an exclamation point which tells me that I should read this with a serious and emphatic tone. It's like a warning to us, letting us know that Jesus--our Judge, our Master, our Creator, our Father--is watching us.

Sometimes I like to think that no one can hear me or see me when I have said or done something displeasing to God. Well, regardless if people around me are watching, God is ALWAYS watching and ALWAYS listening.

When I was in a preschool classroom this morning, the teacher kept saying, "I'm going to be watching all day to see who has been following directions and listening to the teacher and being nice to their friends. Those who are doing a great job will get a special treat at the end of the day!" When the children realized they were being watched, their attitudes changed and they were ready to listen because they wanted that special treat, whatever it was.

The "special treat" that I want to receive from our Father in Heaven is for Him to tell me, "Well done, my good and faithful servant," like it says in Matthew 25:1. I need to always be thinking about our Heavenly Judge who is watching. That's just a little tid bit to keep in mind today and always :)
