Weekend with Mama

I realize that I've been a tid bit absent recently, but I've been a tid bit busy. With my mama, that is!! Woo hoo! My mama came in town this past weekend and it was much needed and much appreciated :) Here's what all went down.

Thursday

Jamie was gone all week last week and that stunk like a skunk. I don't like it when he's gone. I can stand one night of doing my own thang, but not 4 days and 3 nights. Yuckm. So he got home Thursday afternoon, followed by my mom Thursday evening. I cooked Pioneer Woman's chicken tacos, guacamole and PW's blueberry cobbler with French Vanilla ice cream. What a meal! It was nice to have the three of us just hang out, talk, eat and enjoy each other's company.

Later in the evening, we watched some old home videos. My mama had a bunch of videos transferred to DVD's and I'm so glad she did that. I had seen recent videos of me from high school, but never when I was a yittle baby girl. I was presh, by the way. (Besides my Will Smith ears and Buddha belly!) Honestly, they were some really sweet videos. One of my favorite ones was of my family at my mom's parents' house. My Grandma and Grandpa were the sweetest grandparents to me and my sister. My grandpa passed away when I was 17 and my grandma went to heaven to be with him and Jesus this past December. I loved seeing them in those videos, alive and well. No alzheimer's. No pneumonia. No memory loss. No pain. No nursing homes. They were full of energy and life. I miss that. So that was fun to see :)

Another favorite video was of me and Angela. I think it was Christmas 1989. I was 3 and Angela was 5. Our parents had given us a red Jeep and we were riding around the cul de sac. Angela, being the older sister, got to to drive first. But then it was my turn, sista! She was not happy! She threw the biggest hissy fit ever and it was fabulous! And I drove like a bat out of hell. I was up and on the sidewalk, driving on the grass, running into parked cars. My poor dad was holding on for dear life, trying to not let me kill myself. That was a hilarious video.

Angela was a good sister though. She was good to me, despite the inevitable pinches and smacks every now and then, which I may or may not have deserved. When we get to some older videos, I'm sure that I'll be the one being a brat. Hard to believe, I know.

All in all, there were lots of cute kids: me (duh), my sister, and my cousins, KK and Emma. We were so little and adorable! There were lots of mullets, bad perms, crazy 80's clothes, untamed 'fros and more hilarity. They were some funny videos :)

On to Saturday

This day started off beautifully. With an hour long massage, that is. Oh it was glorious. I had a $100 gift card from my in-laws as a Christmas gift to Gould's Spa and Salon, so I used it and treated my mama and I to some massages. Oh, it was heaven. I had never had a full body massage before and it was absolutely superb. I think my favorite was the foot massage. That woman was an angel and God has blessed her with perfect hands :) Thank you, Gould's, for providing me with a lovely massage!

Then we had some lunch at The Silver Caboose.

It was recommended to me by one of my kid's mama's. Thanks, Rachel! It was oh so yummy and set in a really pretty area of Collierville. I've driven through Collierville before, but never really explored. This area was cute and artsy and fun and trendy yet old looking. I loved it. After lunch, we walked around some of the shops and resisted spending money on cute little nicknacks. That's some good will-power.

Later on Friday afternoon, we saw Glee 3D, The Concert Movie...again.

Yes, I've already seen it and it was just as good the second time. It made me want to be on Glee, Season 3. But since we all know that can't happen, I'll keep on dreamin'.

Friday evening, Jamie met us for dinner at Firebirds. It's one of my favorite restaurants in Memphis and they have the best salmon you've ever had! You gotta go, splurge a little, and get the salmon. Oh sweet tastebuds. They were happy that night.

Saturday

Jamie left early to head to the airport. He was on his way to Chicago with his brother to see the Blink 182 reunion concert. They were loving every second of that trip and I'm so grateful that they were able to go.

Well, my mama and I didn't go to a concert, but our day was filled with fun, nonetheless. We took it easy Saturday morning and then took the pooch to PetCo because we had some lookers at the house. Come on, buyers! Let's get this baby sold!

For lunch, we at one of my favorites, Newk's. There was a HUGE thunder and wind storm and it was fabulous! We had so much rain last week and our yard was loving it.

After we waited out the storm, we headed out to go shopping. That's the beauty of having a mama. Shopping.

She gave me this pretty watch, which I love and plan on wearing soon:

Thanks, mama!

She also treated me to some cute shoes from DSW:
The brand is Big Buddha and they were cute and comfy. Thank you, mamacita!

Then, we got pedicures:
I painted my tootsies this dark, sparkly purple. I'm trying to will on the Fall weather by wearing Fall colors. A girl can dream, right?

After pedis, I was in desperate need of a pick-me-up, so I grabbed me some froyo from Yolo, stuck it in my purse and we went to see The Help.

What a fabulous movie that was! Whether you've read the book or not, you must go see this movie! I was laughing and crying and loving every second of it. It's a must-read and a must-see.

For dinner, we went to Thai Bistro for some sushi. Oh sushi, how I love you.

Mama left Sunday morning after we made a breakfast casserole and watched a few episodes of Glee. I was sad to see her go, but I so enjoyed every second we spent together. Thank you so much, mama, for such a fun and fabulous weekend! Not sure when I'll see you next, but I look forward to it :)

Today, I've been doing laundry, working out, going on a walk, watching Friday Night Lights (my favorite) and mowing the yard. Don't it look fancy?:

Yes, Leia. You look precious too. Oh. And I may or may not be guilty of singing out loud and doing the fist pump while jamming to some Katy Perry while I was mowing. Who needs MTV when you can look out your window at me, singing along to pop songs? Sometimes, singing out loud and throwing up a fist pump is necessary when you're feelin' the groove, ya know?

Alright. I'm out. Claire and I are going to kick some bag butt at kickboxing. Love y'all!
