Last night, I went to my first party here in Lafayette and get this...it was a TWILIGHT party! I've never read, never seen, don't know anything about, could care less about this Twilight series that everyone is so obsessed about! But, by golly, I have no friends here still and desperately needed to get out there, be social and meet some people!
Cindy, my boss, asked me my very first day of work if I was a Twilight reader and I told her "no"--that I just couldn't get into vampire and werewolf stuff. Well, I was just about fired over that one, because Cindy and her crew of friends are beyond obsessed with Twilight. So obsessed that they've gone to one of the Twilight conventions in California, met most of the cast, decorate their house in Twilight stuff, have all the t-shirts and go see the midnight showing every year, plus a few times the following week. Oh my gosh.
So anyhoo, I got invited to this party and here are the cute invitations:
To prepare for the party, Jamie and I actually watched all three movies this week. I wanted to read at least one of them, but I read as slow as a slug, so I knew that'd never happen. So we bored the movies from Cindy and watched all three this week. Good husband, I know. They were cute and entertaining, but it's obvious that the book HAS to be better than the movie. I'm actually a little anxious to read them now :)
We got to the hostess's house last night and it was ALL DECKED OUT in Twilight decor. They decorated the house like a wedding reception because that was the theme of the party. I wish I was brave enough to take pictures of everything, but I only got a few pics.
Here was the mantel:
Becky, the hostess, had these canvases painted to match the covers of all four books. Aren't they pretty? What a great idea!
They had cocktail napkins made:
An apple with our name pinned to it as our seating assignment:
I still don't understand the significance of the apple, but I'll read it one day and be fully informed hopefully.
We all had to sign Edward and Bella's "wedding picture":
I was about to opt out of it, because I didn't know what to say. But Becky, the hostess, caught me and told me I absolutely must! So, I awkwardly wrote: "Forever love and happiness. Love, Abby". You can see it at the bottom right corner of the picture. Good gosh, I'm a dork!
At the "wedding reception", we had wedding food: meatballs, fruit, veggies, mini chicken salad sandwiches, shrimp dip, chocolate dipped strawberries and even wedding cake. It was all delicious and so fun! While we were eating, we played an "ice breaker" game. When we RSVP'd, we sent in a funny/bizarre/crazy story from our wedding or prom or whatever. My story was that as I was walking down the aisle, my dad noticed that Jamie and the groomsmen were not at the front of the church. The wedding lady hadn't let them in yet. I giggled the whole time and waited a significant amount of time at the front of the church, waiting for my groom. Little did the audience know that Jamie and I saw each other before the wedding and had our "special moment" without anyone around :) Perfection. But that was the only fairly crazy thing that happened at our wedding.
After the reception, we headed to the theater....TWO HOURS before the movie even began! I think the last movie I waited that long for was Rent. It was fun though and gave me a chance to talk to some of the ladies there. There were about 30 of us that went. It was too cute! I wanted to get a picture of the whole group, but I figured they would think that was a little creepy seeing as though I knew not one of them! Maybe next time, girls.
By the way, we all had to wear black and red cocktail dress attire. I wore a black dress that I've worn several times, but with red heels and pearls. I got compliments from the strangers I didn't know at the party. That always makes you feel good :)
Once we got into the theater (don't worry, we were the first ones there!), Becky did a little Twilight trivia with the audience:
It was hilarious! The whole crowd was really getting into it, because she had prizes for the people who answered correctly. It was pretty cute.
The movie started and the theater clapped and cheered and hooted and hollered and I thought I was at a stinkin' ball game! Overall, the movie was entertaining but kind of tough to watch at some parts. The beginning was wildly romantic and beautiful, but later on, it just got a little gruesome. I won't ruin it for anyone, but it was a little icky. But I liked it!
Now, I've got to borrow those books and read them, because now I'm fully intrigued. Thank you, Cindy and Becky, for a fabulous evening! Apparently we're having a baby shower party for part 2 of Breaking Dawn next year. Too funny!
Did any of you guys go see Breaking Dawn? Are you all on Team Edward or Team Jacob? Which one of the four books is your favorite?
Who knows? Maybe this is the beginning of my own personal Twilight obsession :)
