This is not only my final post of 2010, but it is my 100th post! Whoop whoop! So what are you doing today?:
Are you taking down Christmas?
Are you cleaning out your house?
Are you preparing for company?
Are you picking out a sexy cocktail dress for a New Years party?
Are you relaxing and doing absolutely nothing?!
Are you shopping?
Are you writing out your New Years Resolution list?
As for me, I have already taken down Christmas. I am catching up on laundry. I am collecting things to send off to Goodwill (I love doing that!). I am cleaning things up. I am making things less cluttered. I'm cleaning out the garage. I'm working out. I'm going on a walk. I'm just getting my house a little more in order. I love days like today!
New Years Resolutions:
Are you making a New Years Resolution this year? I don't know if I've made a goal for the new year in years! They always end up failing. Bah! I'll never forget a NYR I made in 8th grade. I was at my girls bible study that I had with a bunch of sweet girl friends, and we were talking about what we want to accomplish for the new year. Well naturally, I said, "I would really love to lose a few pounds". PS--I've really struggled with my body my whole life. And then this tiny little model-like girl, who has always gotten on my nerves said, "Abby, losing weight would be really good for you." WHAT!!!??? Who says that??!?! I'll never forget that moment (even though I'm well aware I need to forgive and forget). So, I'm pretty sure since then and there, I've never made a NYR.
I don't think there's anything wrong with them, but if you are planning on making one, make it attainable! Don't say you're going to read the whole bible by June. Don't say you want to lose 150 pounds if you have no goal in sight to get to a gym or change your eating habits.
I don't mean to sound like Debbie Downer, but what I am trying to say is, think of how you can attain big goals for the new year! If you want to lose weight, make the decision and the commitment to get to the gym 3 days a week. Or start writing in a food journal (religiously!!!). Or higher a trainer if you can afford it. One thing that really helps me stay on track is writing in my planner what workouts I want to do for the day. I'm currently doing ChaLEAN Extreme and it has me on a very scheduled routine. That helps immensely because it forces me to stay on track. If I get off on one day then everything keeps getting pushed back. What I'm saying is, if weight loss is your goal, WRITE IT DOWN! Seeing your goal will make a difference! So do it!
If you have a spiritual goal, yet again, WRITE IT DOWN! In college, I was going through the bible chronologically and I would write down in my planner exactly what I planned on reading each day. And yet again, if I missed a day, it kept pushing everything back. It just messed me up if I got off track. If you want to get to church more often, don't beat yourself up if you don't find the "perfect" church immediately, because the "perfect" church is hard and even impossible to find. Figure out what part of the church experience is non-negotiable. Do you want to find a solid pastor? Do you want to find fellowship in a Sunday School? Are you ready to find a worship service that you love? Are you looking for a singles/couples/married/womens/mens ministry? Figure out what you need and go from there.
There are lots of new years resolutions out there, and if you decide to make one, great! If not, great! Please don't pressure yourself into making one if you don't want to. Also, if you want to make one and it ends up being February...you can go ahead and start it! Resolutions can start any time! Don't get discouraged, sweet friends. Know that the Lord is God and He knows the desires of your heart and will be your Comfort and your Guide along whatever path you choose! Pray about the change you want to make for 2011 and listen to what the Lord has to say to you.
