Watch Out, Better Homes and Gardens

It's been a big week! I got my new tag, I got a new license, conquering the DMV madness, but this week, my big goal was to get my flower beds all nice and pretty. What a challenge that was.

First of all, I don't know a thing about planting flowers, much less keeping them healthy and growing! Jamie and I have been talking a lot about how much we want to keep our house looking beautiful on the inside and out since we own it and don't want to be those grungy new neighbors with the trashy yard. So I've been cleaning the inside everyday, making it cosy and nice, but the outside was my new task. Jamie has been the mower so far, which I appreciate because our yard is rather big, with lots of ground to cover!

I started off calling my mom asking what the hoo ha I do to plant flowers. She told me I needed soil and mulch and then look at where my flower bed is to see if I will need sun flowers or shade flowers! What the heck? Last time I checked, all that flowers need is sun, water and a good talkin' to to make sure they know they're loved and will grow nice and pretty. Whatever. The last time I remember planting flowers was in Sunday School when I was itty bitty, planting flowers in a cup for our mom's for Mother's Day. And I'm sure I helped my mom out in the garden when I was a little girl, but besides that, I haven't done too much. My week started off with me pulling weeds for hours on end! I promise you, weeds and roots will the be death of me. You know that bible verse that talks about the root of all evil....well, the root of all evil is in the flower bed by my mailbox! I got it though! It did not defeat me! But oh man, I wrestled with that darn thing for a good 20 minutes!

Thursday morning, I spent a good hour and 15 minutes wandering around the Lowe's gardening section, lost as lost can be. I finally just said to myself, "Forget it. I'm getting whatever I think is pretty!" So I did. I just walked around got some soil that I thought looked official, some mulch that was nice looking and spelled good and some flowers that made me smile. Waited in line. Got 'em home. Began planting.

I planted for a few hours, then it started to downpour. After the rain left, I planted for a couple hours more. Leia isn't a fan of the flowers. She barked at them for a good 15 minutes, before I finally moved them. What a dork. So here is the result of my planting....don't judge if you think they aren't good looking. I did my best, and hopefully I'll be able to post more pictures if they grow nice and big and gloriously beautimous!
