If you are a Facebook friend of mine, and a faithful Facebook creeper, then you already know that I have returned from a fabulous trip in Charleston, SC with my family!
Let's back up, shall we?
A few years ago, some family friends got a house in the Isle of Palms, SC, a beautiful island right outside of Charleston. Each year, they have continued to host a fabulous week away in paradise with my parents and other couples friends. Since then, they have graciously offered my family the opportunity to spend a little getaway at their home for some R&R. God bless them!
Anyways, we finally found a time for ALL of us to get together and enjoy an extended weekend vacation. Last Wednesday, I met my parents, Angela and Jon in Charleston and our vacation began. Jamie had to come a day late because he had class on Wednesday night. He's so responsible...
After a three hour delay in Atlanta, I finally made it to Charleston, and we wasted no time grabbing a bite to eat. Of course, when you can literally see the ocean from your lunch table, it's only necessary to order something that came from the sea. So I got some of the best fish tacos I've ever had! Yum! I also tried pimiento cheese for the first time. I could take it or leave it.
Then we headed back to the beautiful home we were staying at, and in perfect Ervin fashion, we sat on the porch, rocking in rocking chairs, chatting away. That's one of my favorite things I do with my family...catching up, laughing and just enjoying each other's company.
Me and my seester:
It was actually a pretty chilly afternoon sitting up on the porch, because Hurricane Sandy was blowing in some mighty strong winds! But I didn't mind a lick. It was gorgeous outside!
We then headed inside to get out of the chilly wind and we actually watched about two hours of Rob and Big. I was the only one who had seen that show before, and I'm glad I could introduce my family to such classy entertainment.
Later that evening, we went down the road to The Boathouse for dinner.
Jon and Angela:
Me, my mom and dad:
After dinner, my dad and I walked home and met the others there later, and we all ended up going to bed fairly quickly. After a day of traveling, we were all pretty pooped and ready to get some serious shut-eye.
Thursday morning, we woke up at our leisure, and that was oh so glorious. It was nice to wake up and mosey around as I pleased. We had a fatty fabulous breakfast at Seabiscuit--a fabulous local breakfast joint in town--and I nommed on a delicious omelette. So tasty! I love breakfast food and could eat it at every meal!
Our plan for the day was to explore downtown Charleston and meander through the market. I love market shopping, so this was right up my alley! There were lots of sweet grass baskets (I think that's what they're called), Charleston t-shirts, jewelry, seashell stuff, and a bunch of other random goodies. I was loving it.
After all the walking, we were getting sleepy and had to find a place to perch. So this windowsill was perfect:
Then we got a bit hungro, so a 3:00PM lunch, it is! I don't remember where we ate, but a bunch of famous people had eaten there before, and their pictures were all over the place.
John McCain even ate at my table as well as Danny Glover and some other guys:
After we were shopped out, we headed back to the house for an afternoon nap, TV-watching, rocking chair rocking and just relaxing. Perfection. Jamie's flight got in that evening after 7:00, so we picked him up and then enjoyed a shrimp boil back at the house:
We had local shrimp, sausage, corn on the cob, chips and salsa, and some other yummy goodies.
I loved eating at home with everyone:
After a while, Jamie discovered the telescope and channeled his inner nerd, trying to see what he can see out in the world:
And then, of course, it was time to whip out the mopeds. Jamie was gearing up for this all week long:
He said that there's no smiling on a moped, because you just shouldn't. Plain and simple. Mopeds=bad mamma jamma and no smiling:
So happy to be on a fun new toy:
The boys were happy:
Wednesday and Thursday were perfect days, and we were excited for the rest of the vacation to come!
And I will come back later to tell you more about our fabulous trip!
Love you guys! Hope you've had an excellent week thus far!
