24.5 Weeks: Wiggling Wanda

I absolutely cannot believe that I am so far along in this here pregnancy. Each week, I get a text from Camie, my sister-in-law, telling me how many weeks I have left until we meet baby Scho. I still feel like I have a LONG way to go, but when she tells me the number of weeks I have left, I'm always shocked, because baby girl will be here before I know it! Yessss!!!!!

We went to the doctor this past Monday for my 24 week appointment to make sure everything was going a-okay. It was also going to be the last time we saw our little one in an ultrasound before we see her in the flesh. And after my December appointment, I start going every two weeks instead of monthly because we're getting closer and closer! Wahoo!

The first thing our ultrasonographer said when she was preparing her magic wand was, "The first thing we'll check is to see if your little girl is still in fact a little girl..."

Um, excuse me? You SWORE to me that she was a girl 8 weeks ago and that nothing would change!!! Or there would be nothing "additional" in our next ultrasound...ahem.

Well, thankfully, our little girl is still a lady, and I don't need to go changing all of our pink registry items to blue. I would have been THRILLED for a boy, but I was glad nothing had changed. I'm really excited for a pink baby girl, and have already prepared myself for tutus, bows, ruffles and pink :)

Here's what we saw in our ultrasound:

  • A perfectly beating heart at 157 BPM.
  • 4 chambers of the heart--WILD that you can see all 4 chambers of the heart--these ultrasounds are crazy
  • 10 fingers. 10 toes. 1 nose. 2 ears. 2 eyes. 1 mouth. 2 arms. 2 legs. No deformities as far as the ultrasound can tell. Good news.
  • 2 sections of the brain--she told us what they were called, but she told us that it looked like the brain was perfect
  • A full stomach in her little tummy, which means that she's eating
  • Long spinal cord
I don't remember what else there was, but it was pretty incredible. These ultrasounds never cease to amaze me. Our sweet pea was in a breached position, but we're praying she swivels around in the next 16 weeks, or else this mama will be having a c-section to get her out. Which I'm totally okay with, because I've already told my doctor that she could go through my nose to get her out if that means she's coming out safely. Do what you need to do to me...get this little girl out safe and sound. Me and my body are super secondary.

She has her feet over her head and was touching her toes. Our ultrasonographer thinks she'll be a cuddler, which I'm great with :) We could hardly see her sweet face, but I know she's perfect. She was just a smidgen camera shy, unlike her smizing mama! Can't wait to see her in a few short weeks!

According to What to Expect when You're Expecting:

What's happening to me:
  • I'm getting bigger and loving it. You will only hear me saying this for the next 16 weeks.
  • No idea how much I've gained or how much I weigh. I told myself at the beginning of my pregnancy that I never want to know how much I'm gaining, just as long as it's a healthy amount. I'm the type of person that gets weirded out by numbers, especially pertaining to my weight, so I'm not worried about that number.
  • No new or weird cravings.
  • Bought lots of new maternity clothes which are great. LOVING the full panel over my tummy on my jeans. It's fabulous. Gives a whole new meaning to stretchy pants. My kinda pants!
  • Sleeping wonderfully.
  • Tinkle all the time.
  • I feel great! Super-dee-duper great!
What's happening with baby Scho:
  • She is a wiggling machine! She's kicking all the time now, and I LOVE IT!!! It's so reassuring to know that she's doing well inside of my tummy. Jamie finally can feel her too which is really fun for him.
  • Weighs around a pound and a half and is probably 9 ish inches long
  • Small blood vessels are forming under her skin and filling with blood, causing her to turn pinky.
  • Her lungs are developing to full maturity
  • Her nostrils are starting to open this week which is allowing her to practice breathing in amniotic fluid.
Everything is perfect, my friends! Thank you for your continual thoughts and prayers! God has been so faithful to my prayers and everything I've prayed for has been granted. Knowing how much can go wrong in a pregnancy is such confirmation that a full pregnancy thus far is a miracle in and of itself.

Thank you, Jesus, for my sweet little miracle.

I love you guys and hope that you are enjoying your weekend!
