Prayers for Mickey

A little over a week ago, a girl named Mickey Shunick went missing here in Lafayette. She is a 22-year-old college student at the University of Louisiana Lafayette who was last seen on May 19th around 2:00 in the morning. Read more about her story here. Mickey left a friend's house on her bike on the 19th around 2:00 AM and never made it home. Apparently around here, it is typical for bikers to be out and about in the wee hours of the night. There is a big cycling community down here and since the weather is so hot and humid during the day, it is perfectly normal for them to bike late at night. It was not unusual for Mickey to be riding her bike home at 2:00 AM. But somewhere in between her friend's house and her home, something happened to her.

Just this week, her bike was found by some fishermen down by the Atchafalaya Basin. There has been extensive searches for her by authority figures and thousands of volunteers. There have even been scuba diving crews in the swamps and bodies of water all over Southwest Louisiana. There have been very few leads with any clues leading to her whereabouts, and I just ask that you all pray for her. The authorities have said that they are not hopeful for a positive outcome, and that they're hoping for a miracle. So that's what I pray for now: a miracle.

Lafayette is such a tight knit community with very little crime, especially a missing persons case. This girl went missing just a couple days before her 22nd birthday and she needs to be found. She has parents and siblings who love her and miss her incredibly. As of now there is a $25,000 reward donated by an anonymous family, for whoever finds her and brings her home.

I just ask that you all say a prayer for her tonight and just whenever you think about it. This crime has shaken up the community, leaving everyone--particularly college students--very afraid and nervous. Thank you all for you prayers for the Shunick family.

Love you guys!
