Glorious Memphis Visit

Last week, Jamie and I went to Memphis for the weekend and I am so sad it's over. I wish I could have stayed for a week...or a month...or just gone back for good. As much as I didn't love Memphis as a city, I miss my friends very dearly. If I could bring my church and friends and a few restaurants from Memphis to Lafayette, that would be spectacular! Speaking of Memphis friends, I wish we could have stayed long enough to see all of you, but I promise I'll be back and I'll go see you all when I'm in town :)

So anyway, we got to Memphis a little after 5:00 on Friday evening and I was beyond elated to see my sweet friend Emily, and her baby boy, Ethan. Just look at that little 8 week old angel:
I think I hugged her tightly, held back the tears and almost immediately took that baby out of her arms. I loved him instantly. We hung out at the house for a while and waited for Phillip to get off of work so that we could get some Memphis style BBQ! BBQ is one food group that I miss down here in Louisiana. We have wonderful seafood, but sometimes messy BBQ hits the spot and it's hard to find. So Friday night, we dined at Corky's BBQ and it was deeee-licious!! Mmmm BBQ Nachos...oh how I've missed you.

Phillip and Jamie planned this trip so that they could go to Music Fest during Memphis in May. There were a few bands they wanted to listen to, so that was their plan. My plan was to have some fabulous conversation with sweet Emily and hold that little baby until my arms couldn't hold him anymore.

I had really missed good ol' girl talk. I've made a few friends here that I love and adore, but none feels quite like the bestie quality that Emily has. It was so good to catch up and stay up late, chit chatting.

Saturday morning, we let the boys sleep in since they got home in the wee hours of the night. Poor babies. Emily and I woke up early and got going with chocolate donuts, and a morning walk with the puppies and baby Black. It was a gorgeous morning with a good breeze. But then we walked for a good two hours and were sweating like pigs. I didn't mind it one little bit. I've missed our walks.

Before we knew it, we were home and getting ready for lunch. Lunch venue--Newks! Oh how I've missed me some Newks! I realize there's nothing truly special about that place, but I sure do love it. Nothing beats their chicken pesto sandwich. Yum.

Baby was unhappy in his little car seat before we headed to lunch, so Leia was sure to stand by his side:

She and Daisy were so happy to be reunited again:

Leia loves her pug friend:

It was funny. Leia was obsessed with Baby Ethan! OBSESSED! She licked his face, rested her head on his belly while he sat on my lap, sniffed him all over, and attacked his diaper that stuck out of his onesie. She's such a mess. I don't get it, but she just couldn't get enough of his diaper. Freak of a dog.

After lunch, the boys went back downtown to Music Fest for the evening and Emily and I went to visit Phillip and Claire, my old neighbors. Claire and I were like instant sisters when we lived in Memphis. We were both teachers, Chi Omegas, neighbors, and just had so much in common. Love and miss this little lady so much:

And congrats to Claire for graduating with her Masters last weekend! On to get her PhD at Alabama! Yay Claire!!!!

Love these ladies:

Emily and I had a few errands to run that evening, so that's what we did after we left Phillip and Claire's. One of my errands was to PetCo, because Leia took it upon herself to roll around in poo in the backyard, getting gunky poop smooshed in her collar. Thanks, pup. I think she did it on purpose so that she could get a new collar. I like her style. Here's her cute new collar:

It's pale pink with navy blue dots. Super cute. Love my goggie.

Saturday evening, we visited Emily's family (most precious people ever!), grabbed some Backyard Burgers to go and enjoyed some more great conversation with Emily at her house until we couldn't stay awake any longer.

Sunday was sad. I woke up knowing I had to go home in just a couple hours and leave my friend. It was such a great weekend with our good friends. Phillip and Jamie had a ball at their music fest and I'm thrilled they got to have their boy time while Emily and I had our girl time. It's nice having married friends again :)

We left around 11:00 ish with tear-filled eyes, and headed back to Lafayette. Leia was a good car rider this go-round:

 And a good watch dog:

But I miss this little guy and his mama so badly already:

Love you, Phillip and Emily! Thank you for a wonderful weekend!
