Song #7: Wannabe

Every year in Lafayette, there is a HUGE festival called "Festival International de Louisiane" and it is a big event where there are lots of artist, singers and bands from all over the world, food, arts and crafts, dancing, shopping and more. To read more about it, click here

It went on from Wednesday to Sunday and I went with my friend, Julia. Julia is the Young Life director here in Lafayette and we met through a gal I work with. She's beyond precious and I'm so thrilled she was  able to go with me.

I took a few pictures of the event, even though you just had to be there to get the full experience.
Let me try to paint a picture for you.

  • Dreadlocks
  • Hippies
  • Crocks with socks
  • Tevas
  • Birkenstocks
  • Feathers for jewelry and in hair
  • Rope/Jesus sandals
  • Big women in little clothing
  • Men in jorts (jean shorts)
  • Random people hoola hooping
  • Tattoos in places the public shouldn't ever see
  • Piercings in places the public shouldn't ever see
  • Wildly hairy legs. On women.
  • Freak-show dancing
I'm telling you, this was like the state fair times twelve trillion! Everyone came out of the woodworks! I was worried that I'd have to go to this event by myself because Jamie was out of town during the festival, and honestly, I would have been perfectly content going alone because the people watching was that outstanding. Hilarious.

Anyways, hopefully that gives you an idea of what/whom I was dealing with :)

I believe there were six different stages playing different types of music from all over the world. It was awesome!

These guys were an African band. They were pretty fabulous:

The food here was out of this world! I wish I were hungrier and wealthy, because I wanted EVERYTHING they had to offer. But I settled on the "Crawfish Bowl" because it came highly recommended:

Oooo baby, it was good. It was in a bread bowl, and if it weren't so bloody hot outside, it would have been much better. All in all, it was super delicious.

Every "section" of the festival had excellent decorations and themes:

This group was my favorite. It was an Irish band, and they were an absolute blast. I've decided that Irish folk music is my new favorite. We listened to them for a good hour and did some serious people watching. I wish I was brave enough to take pictures of some of these people and how they were dancing. It was pretty outrageous.

Lots o' people:

Me and one of the famous signs:

At some point during the festival there are lots of people dressed up like the picture above. I wish I saw them in real life :) I'm really glad that picture doesn't show all of the sweat that I was dripping all over downtown Lafayette. I was drenched. Sweating like a sinner! Good golly, it was scorching hot outside! But I had a ball!

This was a really good Native American band:

They were entertaining and funny.

Scene Malibu was another one of the stages:

Here is a mural done by some famous artist...not sure who...but I think it's a really neat painting done on one of the walls in downtown Lafayette:

Already looking forward to Festival next year! Super fun!

To conclude my LONG "week of songs", here is the 7th and final song.

Song #7: "Wannabe" by Spice Girls

They played this song in spin class yesterday and it made my day. Perfect conclusion to a great week of songs. Love. I miss the 90's.

Love you guys! Hope you had a great Thursday!
