I've reached a consensus after being in Lafayette for a few more days. It is most definitely Laff-Eee-Ett. Not "Law". Not "Fay". But Laff-eee-ett. So, I'm going to work on my Louisianan/Cajun talk and start by saying my new city the correct way.
Moving on.
Let's back up to a few pics from last week.
Jamie and I ventured out to a new restaurant on Thursday called Milanos. He got a gift card from one of his customers, so we enjoyed ourselves a free din din :)
Check out this gigantic pizza:
Random pic of the week:
This stuff is my new favorite. It's the yummiest smelling fabric softener I've ever smelled. Go get you some!
My Goodwill load:
Snuggled in tightly in my car. Glad to get rid of so much stuff!:
Friday night, we had dinner at Huey's with some of my favorites in Memphis, TN. Jenny, Allen, Emily and Phillip. Here is me with the girls:
I seriously can't talk about being away from them in a few short weeks. I'm going to miss them dearly.
Early Saturday morning, we left at the butt crack of dawn (5:00 AM) to head for Lafayette. Jamie started his job yesterday, so we wanted to get a bundle of his stuff moved in to our new digs.
(PS--some of these pics will be out of order)
The drive to Lafayette was absolutely atrocious! We were trying to beat Tropical Storm Lee that was hovering around the Louisiana border. It was supposedly going to hit Lafayette in the morning, so we knew we needed to leave as soon as we could to get there safely.
We drove for about 2 hours and then the heavens opened up and it was awful, terrible, sideways rain. I was NOT a happy camper. My hands hurt from gripping the steering wheel. My shoulders were sore. My neck was cramping. It was horrid. Come to find out, about an hour after we drove through Jackson, a tornado hit. God was most certainly looking out for us! Thank you, Jesus!
When we got to Lafayette, we signed a ton of papers and the rain stopped. Just enough to allow us to move in our things without them getting wet.
Here are a few pics of our new digs!
Walking into the apartment, here is the living room. I am standing in the "dining room":
Oh yeah. And Leia.
Now, I'm standing in the living room, looking into the "den" which we'll use as a 2nd bedroom/office:
We heaved and ho'd all of our junk into the kitchen. There was no time to put it where it should go because we were racing the rain that was about to hit any second:
By the way. Louisiana pre and post rain=really bad humidity. Evidence of that here:
Lulu and I were happy to be standing on our balcony, relaxing after a long and stressful day:
Jamie snoozed with Leia Lu...
And I took a bubble bath...
Leia was glad to be out of the car:
We were glad to be out of the car:
Our "bed" for the weekend:
We brought the twin bed, but I move around SO much at night and knew we'd probably get more sleep if we just make a pallet on the floor.
I brought some entertainment for the weekend since we don't have cable. Faerie Tale Theatre, of course:
This was just a mere hint of our driving conditions on the way to Lafayette:
When Leia gets really snuggly under the blanket, sometimes, this is all we see:
And then she decides to greet us with more of her sweetness. "Mom, turn the fwash off, pweeze!":
"Das better.":
I think she liked our make-shift bed for the weekend:
Lulu LOVES the balcony, but she needs to learn to quit barking at everything that breathes:
She is 15 pounds of ferocious, so neighbors, beware!!
On Sunday, we went shopping for Jamie. And we had a little fun in Academy Sports:
I have a really big head. Like huge. Fat. Gigantorm. And this helmet wouldn't fit. So sad.
We also went shopping for Leia Lu. Since it rained ALL weekend long and Princess Peach hates getting wet, we got her a little raincoat:
I actually think she liked it.
Sunday night, we had frozen yogurt for dinner:
Crush Frozen Yogurt is spitting distance away from us. As in, I walk down the stairs. Walk straight. And I'm standing in front of more than a dozen froyo flavors. Dangerous, I tell ya. Absolutely dangerous.
Jamie's neatly organized closet with about half of his clothes:
Don't worry. We have his and her's closets. Both walk-in's. Hallelujah!
Leia Lu has SO many windows to look out of now! Where will she even begin?!:
Kitchen:
The kitchen looks out to the living room, which I absolutely adore! We're currently looking for a couple barstools if anyone sees any that won't break the bank.
This is a MUCH better drive home, don't you think? Not a cloud in the sky:
Love you guys and thanks for sticking around at A Deeper Life even though I'm rather inconsistent with blogging because of moving and all. You guys are the best!

What a great apartment! Two fireplaces...I might have to come stay in your guestroom just to try one out. :P
