So what DO you do all day?
I have read several articles from SAHM (stay at home moms) that they get asked that question all the time by working parents. Thankfully, I have yet to be asked that question since surely people know that taking care of an infant is not a cake walk. Nor is it an easy or lazy job. So in case you've been wondering what this SAHM does all day, I documented my day today to show you what Lucy girl and I do on most days.
This morning started off spectacularly, because I woke up before Lucy did. Always a beautiful thing! I stayed in bed with Leia, had a few minutes in the Word, and then I saw this on the baby monitor:
Good morning, Lucy!
She usually sleeps anywhere from 10 to 12 hours now so she woke up a little before 7:00 this morning and I was ready to get her. She's always so happy and cheerful in the morning so it makes waking up and getting her that much easier.
Stay in bed, Leia Lu...
She as no problem staying under the covers!
Hi, Lucy love!!!
Mama!!! Get me up and outa here!!!
I got her up, changed her diaper, fed her and put some clothes on her for the morning:
All set and ready to go!
After I feed her, we go to the kitchen and I put her in her walker while I make and eat breakfast.
We do this every morning.
We change our calendar page...
And I make me some breakfast. This morning, I had a green smoothie complete with a frozen banana, mango, strawberries and pineapples, spinach, Greek yogurt and Green Machine Naked Juice.
I also had a side of Skinny Taste Pumpkin Banana Bread:
Every morning, after I eat breakfast, I clean the kitchen, wipe off counters, clean bottles, load dish washer...really fun stuff.
Then it's play time!
We read books, play in the living room, crawl around, climb on EVERYTHING, and then we get all strapped up and head out to take Leia potty.
Since I live on the second floor of our apartment, I have to "wear" Lucy, harness Leia up and take them both downstairs to the "grassy knoll" to let my fur child do her business.
We do a quick stroll around the area, and then get all ready for mine and Lucy's big walk around the neighborhood.
Today was a particularly cold day in Lafayette (low 50s is freezing here!), so Lucy girl got all bundled up and ready to go!
Every morning, I take about a 4-5 mile walk and Lucy gets in a good nap, while I get in some "me time". During this time, I talk on the phone with family and friends and listen to a podcast sermon most days.
Did you have a good nap, lovey?
Today, we had a lunch date with Miss Emily, so we had to get ready quickly!
I put her in her walker so that I could jump in the shower.
I have a dream of taking a shower without a little girl sitting outside, yelling at me to come play....
And then I put her in her Bumbo while I got ready.
(Disclaimer: I NEVER leave her side when she is in the Bumbo up on the counter!! NEVER EVER!! So she is 100% safe sitting up there with me right there!)
We hopped in the car and headed to McAlister's to eat with Emily. Most days, we just hang out at home and eat lunch there, but today was a fun day!
Lucy was a WILD WOMAN at lunch and brought some big giggles to me and Emily!
She even ate almost a whole banana! I've got a very good eater on my hands and I hope and pray that continues through toddlerhood!
By the way, I left out the part in our getting ready process where Lucy picked up Leia's water bowl and poured it all over her. Wardrobe change #2 for the day. That child is a busy mess. A fun, but busy mess!
We got home from lunch and had about an hour of play time.
She loves reading/eating her books.
And terrorizing her room.
Pulling anything/everything off shelves! Busy baby!
I got her changed and into some comfy PJs to get ready for her afternoon nap. I don't usually put PJs on her, but I wanted her in something warmer than what she was wearing.
Start of the bottle:
End of the bottle:
Nap time:
Those lips...
Nighty night, Lucy love!
She will nap anywhere from 30 minutes to 2+ hours! I never know how much the princess will nap, but I make her stay in her bed for at least an hour, even if she is awake.
Today was awesome, because she slept for a little over 2 hours! Woo hoo! When she naps, I get laundry and cleaning done. Get dinner prepped, relax....whatever I need to do baby-free! I love nap time!
When she woke up, I headed in to get my baby and she was not a fan of the flash. Sorry, baby:
Mommy, please get me out of here!!!!!!
I got her changed and gave her a few ounces of her bottle and then we got all strollered up and headed out to take Leia potty again.
Oh the perks of apartment living...
We walked Leia for about 10-15 minutes and then dropped her off at the apartment. Since it was such a gorgeous afternoon, Lucy and I went back out for about another hour to walk around. We live in a really great area with shopping and restaurants and beautiful homes, so it's always nice to get out and about a couple times a week.
After about an hour, we came home for a few minutes of play time while I got dinner ready.
Poor Leia. Lucy is just relentless in bugging her puppy.
Strawberries for dinner!!
Strawberries=nakey baby dinner time! She gets so slimy with finger foods.
She ate about 3 strawberries all chopped up, and then we headed into the kitchen so that I could clean up and make my dinner.
Then Lucy got to enjoy about 30 more minutes of play time before she had to take a bath.
Bath time for Miss Messy Buns!!!
Bath time is usually daddy's job when he's home. When he gives her a bath, I make Lucy's bottle, clean up and get all of her bed time stuff ready. And then I go in and help him finish up. He's SUCH help at night!!
Then, we got all bundled up for our final outing with Leia.
I usually take Leia out 3-4 times a day, and when Jamie is out of town, it makes taking her out difficult, because I have to strap Lucy on and take her as well. I truly do have so much respect for single moms and dads, because it is tough work! Jamie is usually gone overnight a few times a month, and those days are hard! Really hard! So I am so thankful for him when he's home, because he is such a huge help.
Once we got Leia all walked and pottied, we headed back home to get Lucy's bottle ready and put her to bed.
Leia made sure she kept us company while I gave Lucy her night night bottle.
After her bottle, Lucy was ready to party, and Leia just wanted to cuddle!
I sang "I love you Lord" and prayed with Lucy, kissed her cheek and laid her down to go to bed. She chatted with herself for a few minutes and then fell asleep quite peacefully. I am now sitting on the couch, in silence, with Leia by my side and writing this blog.
When Jamie is home, this is when we just get to relax and hang out with each other. I really value this time, because we just don't get to hang out without Lucy anymore, so we really embrace this time together catching up on our days and being hubby and wifey.
So all this to say...Lucy wakes up. She eats. I eat. She plays. Leia potties. We walk. She plays. She eats. I eat. She plays. She eats. She naps. She wakes. Leia potties. She plays. She eats. I eat. She bathes. Leia potties. She eats. She sleeps. I rest.
Every now and then we go to the mall or to the library or to the grocery store or run some errands and piddle around. We have fun together and she keeps me busy. I love being a mom. I love being a SAHM. So much! So thankful I get to stay home with her :)
There you have it folks. A day in the life of me and Lucy.
Love you guys!
