On Saturday evening, I was walking Leia Lu and talking to my mama on the phone, our usual walking and talking routine. When I got home, I cuddled on the couch with Jamie while we watched some TV. My mom called me back shortly after we said "goodbye" and said "I forgot to tell you. Whitney Houston died today." It took me a second for it to sink in that such a huge musical icon had passed away. It didn't even register with me.
But then I hung up the phone and looked at Jamie and here's how the conversation went.
- "Oh my gosh. Whitney Houston died today!" -Me
- "Who's Whitney Houston?" -James
- "Are you kidding me? You better be joking!! James, are you for real? Whitney Houston! Musical icon! I Will Always Love You! The Preacher's Wife! I Wanna Dance With Somebody! Come on!"-Me
Could you tell that I was rather disgusted with my husband's lack of concern for one of my most favorite singers of all time?
Anyways, I am so very sad that Whitney has passed away, and will miss her powerful set of lungs. Be lifting up her family in prayer as she has children who will miss her dearly.
Some of my Whitney favorites:
- "I Will Always Love You." Duh.
- Her performance on The Preacher's Wife. "I Believe in You and Me" still melts my heart. So good.
- Her performance as the Fairy God Mother on Cinderella with Brandy. She was so beautiful in that movie.
- "I Wanna Dance With Somebody" will always get me dancing :)
- Waiting to Exhale. Great movie. I may watch it today.
- Duet with Mariah Carey from The Prince of Egypt--"When You Believe". Breathtaking.
- "How Will I Know?"
- "Run to You"
- "It's Not Right. But It's Okay." --Girl power in that song!
- But her version of the Star Spangled Banner is by FAR my most favorite Whitney performance. She is absolutely flawless.
Watch the video here to learn why I appreciate and love this lady so much:
If you are not an American citizen, then you will be now after watching that video! Thank you, Whitney, for giving me chills all these years with your powerhouse of a voice.
Even Leia has been known to jam to Whitney and her set of lungs:

Love you guys! God bless you, Whitney. Have a happy Monday.
