Merry Sickmas from the Schoenthalers

Jamie and I got home from Europe the evening of December 19th (by the way, I'll finish my Europe posts later!) and starting December 20th everyone started getting sick.

But let's back up a bit.

The week before Jamie and I left for London, Jamie got pretty sick. Coughy, snotty, just yucky. He started to get better and then the night before we left, I got sick. And I stayed sick our whole trip. Not necessarily really sick, but certainly not 100%. Just a really crummy cough. We both got better, and then we came home and Jamie got sick again.

Then our Lucy girl got sick on the 20th.

Fever. Coughing. Sneezing. Snotting. Big fever. We're talking 104+ fever. Mama was freakin' out!!

After a chat with the on-call doctor, he recommended getting Lucy on baby Advil to get the fever down. He said they have seen a LOT of RSV and flu this year, so that may be the case for Lucy. He said if the fever doesn't go down, then we should take her to the emergency room to get treated for whatever was going on with her. Thankfully, her fever went down almost immediately, but she was a sick sick little baby.

I had to play the role of Nurse Abby to mend both of my sick loves. I practically forced drugs down Jamie's throat to make him feel better. He even fell asleep on Lucy's mattress when I was changing her sheets. Thanks, James.

I did a lot of this:

Watching movies by myself while I quarantined Lucy and James. At this point, I refused to get sick!!!

Christmas Eve, I was hoping Lucy would wake up a new woman. Unfortunately, she woke up a sick little baby. Still.

She could not shake whatever she had.

Thankfully her fever went down and has stayed down, but she was certainly not well.

She did lots of this:

We're talking 4-5 hour naps and sleeping 13+ hours at night.

We tried to be festive Christmas Eve night and go look at Christmas lights after eating dinner, but someone was not feeling it:

Look at that mug! Miserable.

Christmas morning...still not feeling great:

Our Charlie Brown Christmas:

Boxes with no wrapping and bows on top. That's all she cared about anyway...just some boxes to bang on :)

Unhappy, sickly baby:

Trying so hard to rally and play with her new toys:

We watched A Charlie Brown Christmas...a Schoenthaler tradition that Jamie and I have done every year:

And I made a Cinnamon Roll casserole...holy yum!

One of the most tasty breakfast casseroles I've ever tried in my life! So good!

I even tried my hand at reading Cajun Night Before Christmas:

It was ridiculous. If you have read this book, then you'll understand my great difficulty in trying to do a Cajun accent while reading this. Absurd.

My poor angel just felt crummy on such a fun day:

I was the only one smiling in our home, but I was so so sad inside.

But as Lucy and Jamie slept, mama got to cookin'!

I made Pioneer Woman's Perfect Pot Roast, PW's Restaurant Style Smashed Potatoes and some boxed corn bread:

One of the most delicious meals in history! It was home cookin' at it's finest and we all needed some nice home cookin'! It soothes the soul, you know.

For dessert, I made a chocolate pudding pie:

Dangerous and delicious! It's a good thing I don't cook this way all the time, or my waistline would be in great trouble.

Christmas 2013 was sad but certainly memorable. It was Lucy's first Christmas and that will always be special, but it was so sad that she was way too sick to enjoy it. We keep saying that we'll do a Christmas do-over, but no one has gotten well enough to do that!

I will say that her new favorite thing is the stuffed animal Jamie and I brought home from DisneyLand Paris. She loves "Copper" from The Fox and Hound:

Cuddles up with him at every sleep. She loves him so much, and he has definitely been her buddy during this yuck that she has :)

To continue the sickness, I brought Lucy to the doctor the day after Christmas, because she still wasn't well. Lo and behold, her doctor said she more than likely had the flu last weekend and she now has a bulging double ear infection. So we are giving her baby Advil and Amoxicillin around the clock and hoping she'll get better. It has now been 3 days since she's been on her drugs, and she is still not better. If we don't see improvement by tomorrow, then we'll try to go back to the doctor. Lovely.

It's just so tough to see my baby so sick and not be able to make her feel better. She's such a happy baby and I'm sure she's wondering herself why she feels so off.

In the meantime, she's been awfully cuddly at night:

And that I love.

This goes without saying, but because of the germy loves in my life, I now have the crud. Thanks a lot, little toadies! So I am trying to rally and get feeling better, but I just feel like our germs are rotating around the apartment, latching onto one person and then the next. These germs are unrelenting!! I'm about to get us each a hotel room and get this place fumigated!!

If you have a spare moment, please pray that we all get feeling better. Jamie is feeling a bit better, Lucy has stayed stagnant and I am getting worse. We're on day 10 of the Schoenthaler sickness, and we're all pretty healthy people! Yuck!

Merry Sickmas from our family to yours!!

Love you all!
