Jamie and I thought we'd have a full nights sleep our first night in London, considering neither of us slept too much on the plane, but we both actually slept horribly. Which proved to be the case for the rest of our trip as well. And the worst part is that we took sleepy cold medicine every night and still couldn't sleep! Ridiculous!
But we woke up ready for a super fun filled day in London! Our first stop was breakfast...for me :) Thankfully, our hotel had a delicious breakfast every morning. And you know what I found odd? They had baked beans for breakfast every morning. Apparently that's a common English breakfast item. Whodathunk?
Our next stop was to the British Museum. That had been recommended to us time and time again, so we were definitely going to hit that up.
As we walked our merry way there, I took pictures of buildings and other things that I deemed photographable.
Like this:
I think we were in/near the theater district, so there were lots of theater posters up. Too bad I didn't marry a broadway buff because I wanted to go to all of the shows that were offered!
Jamie walking along the cold, London streets:
Hello, Taxi:
The buildings had such great character about them! They were old and picturesque and fabulous.
And there's something about falling, colorful leaves that I just love!
The British Museum:
Thankfully all of the museums in London are free because we went to several!
This museum was gigantorm!
I wish I were a bit more of a history buff, because I didn't know much about what we saw in this museum. But it was still fascinating.
It was split up by country and continent.
Obviously, we were in Egypt here.
Lots of statues. Lots of jars. Lots of jewelry. Lots of weapons.
A lot of it was fascinating, but a lot of it was....less than thrilling.
Oh yeah. Lots of headless statues as well.
These were supposedly Jesus' feet, but I'm convinced that Jesus wouldn't have such stringy and alien-like toes. He was perfect, you know.
Coffins and mummies.
More headless statues:
I got bored after a while, and needed to mock this head. But then a security guard gave me a, "you stupid American look"...so I stopped right after we got this one:
This was the most fascinating part of the whole museum:
Cleopatra's coffin:
She's in there!!!
Jamie and I thought this head looked like Steve Brule:
Am I right?
This armor was made of crocodile skin:
Crazy!
And there was a whole clock room filled with beautiful and brilliant clocks:
Lots of jewelry:
Propaganda plates:
This was beautiful and intricate and amazing:
More dead people and coffins:
Cute hubbies too:
Library modeled after one of the Kings:
A Native American room:
Us Okies felt at home here:
I spy with my little eye a very attractive husband:
The original Toms:
After spending several hours in this museum, we grew quite starving, so we headed back out to find a bite to eat.
Like I mentioned before...the food is nothing to write home about in London so we struggled to find a restaurant that looked yummy. So we stopped at a Brazilian place with a yummy buffet. We'll take it!
After a while, we headed to Piccadilly Circus and Trafalgar Square:
We loved the street performers!
What big city vacation is complete without a trip to the M&M store?
Lucy, I found your coffee mug!!
1986...what a great year:
We pondered seeing The Hobbit, but just couldn't bring ourselves to go see a movie while we were in London.
A quick stop in the National Portrait Gallery:
Hello,Yoda:
This guy was great!!
And then a stop in the National Gallery:
Our second day ended with a delicious dinner at an Indian restaurant. So so so good! Everything was pretty expensive and Indian food is quite spicy, so we had to ration out our drinks that evening. But it was so tasty!
Day 2: Done!
We were missing our sweet Lucy desperately, but it was such an amazing trip! We got to be romantic and hold hands and walk around with our arms linked. Such a fun day with my cute and wonderful hubby :)
Stick around for an update on the rest of our amazing trip! Love you guys!
