Family Trip to the New Orleans Aquarium

Before I tell you about our fun day trip to New Orleans, I have to show you some hilarious pictures Jamie and I took from our first date with out baby Lucy. Jamie and I went to see the movie "Grown Ups 2". We absolutely love the first movie and were stoked to see the 2nd. So one Sunday morning after church, I surprised Jamie with a date! I had already arranged for my sweet friend Emily and her mom to watch Lucy while Jamie and I got away for a couple hours.

I dropped off Lucy at Emily's and Jamie and I grabbed a quick bite at Raising Cane's--splitting a box combo--and then headed to the movie theater were we both overindulged on nachos and candy and Diet Coke. Make sure you note we both got a DIET coke, because we were being healthy. Fried chicken, nachos and candy...with a Diet Coke. Makes sense, right?

Anyways, I have the HARDEST time getting Jamie to take a nice picture. He does this ridiculous, constipated smile that I absolutely loathe! I wanted to get a quick picture as to document our first date out without the babe, so before taking this picture, I said, "Smile nice, please. Okay?" And he agreed that he would. "I will. For real!" So he says.

As I'm about to take the picture, he can tell that he was smiling, but I knew he was up to something. I just knew he was about ruin the picture. And yes. He was.

It's hard to tell in that picture, but he was regurgitating colorful candy spit to ooze through his teeth, but he indeed was smiling nicely.

Little turd.

So we took another one.

Deer in the headlights.

We took another one.

Dork smile.

I love my dork.

I may hate his silly smiles that he makes just to rustle my jimmies, but I sure do love him.

Anyways, on to the aquarium!

About a year and a half ago, I met my parents in New Orleans for a few days while they were there on business. We met a day before it all started and spent part of the afternoon at the aquarium.

Here is the post about that trip.

Ever since we had Lucy, I've told Jamie that we have GOT to take a family day trip there to see the aquarium, because it truly is fabulous! Jamie actually took two days off a couple weeks ago, and we spent one of the days in NOLA.

When we got there, we ate at a little hole-in-the-wall tourist trap called Mother's. Ooo baby it was so good! Apparently they're known for having the "World'd best baked ham"! Who knew? I ended up getting a fried catfish po boy and it was all kinds of delicious!

We then headed on to the aquarium on this very very hot day!

Lucy was in a truly hilarious mood that day and was squawking and yelling and making her weird gagging sounds. So stinking funny! She was also really restless, so Jamie held her as we walked around, looking at the different fish tanks.

I'm not sure she knew what exactly she was looking at, but she was in awe.

See, Jamie! You DO know how to smile! Gosh, he's handsome!

The penguins were swimming right in front of Lucy and she couldn't track them quite quick enough. She has this innocent look of confusion, wondering what in the world just passed by.

CHOMP CHOMP!!!

My two loves.

Overall, the aquarium was a great success! I think Lucy loved it and we'll definitely be going back! I love watching her learn and watch and observe new things. It's truly amazing to think about how much a baby learns in their first year.

After we left the fish museum, we walked around outside for a bit and were in desperate search for anywhere that is air conditioned. It was a particularly hot day in southern Louisiana, and we were sweating our faces off.

And we didn't want princess peach to burn or get too hot either.

She was not a fan of her giant hat, but this mama sure does love it!

She was more excited about the straps on her little "seat belt" in her Jeep stroller than anything else. Goober.

We perused the mall for a bit and just soaked up the AC. Glorious. We would have walked around a little more, but I wasn't about to stay any longer outside in the heat and New Orleans is a little too dirty to walk around outside with an infant. Didn't want my child getting second hand smoke poisoning from all the ciggies. Yuck.

We did, however, manage to find a Pinkberry for some cold dessert!

Clearly, I was a happy happy camper to be sitting, in the shade, eating something cold.

And here's a quick photo shoot we had at the mall of me and my girl:

I'm so thankful Jamie used his days off to drive several hours to New Orleans and spend time with me and Lucy. He's such a good daddy and husband and he is continually proving that to both of us. Love that man. Love my kid. Love my life. So undeniably blessed.

Hope you all are doing well! Love you guys!
